Hello friends 🤗
Happy Easter! I have wrapped up my hidden worlds essay and second thesis chapter for now. Lots of admin this week, organising oral history interviews and responding to so many emails. No wonder academic staff struggle to find time to do their own research work; the admin is a whole full-time job in itself. Now I should be able to focus solidly on marking for the rest of the week.

🌿 Bindweed 🍃
Jo spoke beautifully about crip time and bindweed (“an undesirable, marginalised plant, which grows in an anti-clockwise direction”) as a disability metaphor. I have been thinking about bindweed quite a bit since then.
🎙️Oral Histories 🗣️
Super excited to have gotten lots of interested participants oral history interviews for my dissertation! I am massively indebted to one participant and friend who has funnelled most people to me. As a result, the pool is not particularly diverse - I will have to address this in my thesis.
But that just means I want to do more interviews! There certainly seems to be the appetite for it based on the enthusiastic responses I have recieved. Fingers crossed my PhD is not the end of my research on the history of blind mobility technologies because I feel as though I have just bearly scratched the surface of canes.
