You've started me thinking about how I might spot technoableism in the early to mid-1800s, based on what was considered cutting-edge or emerging technology (or attempts at it) at the time.

Another topic for the 'someday' list.... 😁

Please do! I think it's important to be aware of these things even if it doesn't culminate in REF-able research.

I suspect there would have been a lot of hype around the power of electricity and cure. Jaipreet Virdi has written a great book about the ableism-ridden promises of hearing aid technologies that covers a great span of time (Hearing Happiness, 2020). There certainly is a through-line over the centuries, even if the language, technologies and exact manifestations have shifted.
